Cyberbullying and the Upstander
Learn how to move from being a passive bystander to an active, positive force online.
Bystander vs. Upstander
In any bullying situation, online or off, there are three main roles: the person doing the bullying, the person being targeted, and the people who see it happen. Those who see it and do nothing are called bystanders. Their silence can often feel like approval to the bully.
An upstander is someone who sees what’s happening and chooses to do something about it. They are the heroes of the internet. Being an upstander doesn't mean you have to confront the bully directly. There are many safe, simple, and powerful ways to help.
Safe Upstander Actions
Small Actions, Big Impact
You don't have to be a superhero to be an upstander. A single private message of support can change someone's entire day and give them the strength to handle the situation. Your small act of kindness matters more than you know.
